For Mentors

Remember how you were mentored as a student or a young professional?

ACME is built on the premise that mentoring is a key to success, particularly in the complex world of the 21st century’s digital revolution.

ACME mentors are artists, writers, directors, producers and entrepreneurs.  On their own, or supported by their companies, they give their time to ACME to make a difference in the lives of their ACME students.

Current and past ACME mentors include established industry professionals including Don Hahn, Randy Nelson, and Eric Goldberg.

Over the past 5 years alone, ACME has mentored over 52,000 students through its online platform and its video conferences.

Through regular live videoconferencing sessions (“ACME On-Air”) and our 24/7 online community (“ACME Online”), students present their work to professionals for critique and guidance – outlining their challenges, intentions, and questions.  Professionals are able to conveniently interact with students on an ongoing basis over the school year without leaving their studio or home environments.  ACME amplifies the concept of one-on-one mentoring.  A professional’s interactions with one student or several students are viewed by the entire ACME community, effectively scaling the reach and teaching impact of mentors.

Following the iterative process of media/entertainment industry practice, students revise their work until it meets the standards-based criteria used by the mentors, participating educators, as well as more advanced students. Skills developed include fluency in convergent media, complex communication, critical thinking, good citizenship, and the ability to produce value in innovative ways.

Through the refinement and revision process, students present for critique successive iterations of their work, resulting in:

  • Increased confidence and engagement;
  • Inspired creative work;
  • Innovative thinking and problem solving;
  • A consistent work ethic as a path to success;
  • Improved oral, written, and visual communication skills;
  • Better listening skills;
  • Fluent presentation skills;
  • Successful adoption of domain-specific language and terminology;
  • Experience with a goal-oriented, collaborative process;
  • A culture of giving and receiving constructive feedback..
